Why Heavy Haulers need to switch to mobile apps
It is the year 2022. One would think that most industries at this point have moved away from paper-based processes and conduct their businesses fully electronically. Unfortunately, that’s not the case! Many industries are still mired in paper forms. The paper forms are used to collect information, carry information, and for getting signatures. One such industry is transportation and logistics and more specifically heavy haulers. Believe it or not, most truckers still carry a binder with all kinds of paperwork.
Many of our heavy hauler customers report that their truckers are always on the road and come back to the office once in a couple of weeks. They bring back customer signed Bill of Ladings (BOL) for invoicing. The problem was that this process really delayed invoicing and getting paid. At times, the company waited as much as 120 to 150 days to get customer payments. Also, very often the paper BOLs were hard to decipher when done with handwriting and could not be read or contained mistakes. The office staff would have to chase down the drivers and the customers to correct mistakes. We are sure this happens to many transportation and logistics companies and not just the heavy haulers. The delay in payments and human errors cost even small companies hundreds of thousands of dollars! According to our customers, most electronic BOL solutions are not very good. They require shippers, carriers, and receivers to sign up on the same platform. The probability of that happening is very low. Every heavy haul company is used to their way of doing business and does not want to change. That’s why most heavy haulers are still carrying paper BOLs.
We at Snappii recognize the fact that heavy haulers and truckers, in general, want to preserve the way they do business. Our unique mobile Apps platform allows us to take customers' BOLs, inspection forms, dispatch forms, and other forms and turn them into an App. Both the back office and the drivers can fill out the forms and generate PDF BOLs that the company uses today. There is no change to the way the heavy haulers do business. Employees love it! Drivers get the customer to sign the BOL on a smartphone or tablet and the PDF Bill of Lading is automatically sent to the back-office for process and invoicing.
